The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) and Panama played a thrilling draw in the semifinals of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup on Wednesday night. Both teams had their chances to win the game, but neither was able to find the back of the net.
The USMNT came into the match as the favorites, having won their previous two matches in the tournament. Panama, on the other hand, was looking to upset the hosts and reach the final for the first time since 2013.
The match started at a fast pace, with both teams creating chances early on. The USMNT had the first good look at goal in the 10th minute, but Christian Pulisic's shot was saved by Panama goalkeeper Luis Mejía.
Panama had a chance to take the lead in the 25th minute, but Rolando Blackburn's header went just wide of the post. The two teams continued to trade chances throughout the first half, but neither was able to find the breakthrough.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams having chances to win the game. The USMNT had a great chance in the 65th minute, but Weston McKennie's shot was cleared off the line by a Panama defender.
Panama had its best chance to win the game in the 85th minute, but Abdiel Ayarza's header went just over the crossbar. The match ended 0-0, and the two teams will now face off in a penalty shootout to decide who will advance to the final.
The Gold Cup final will be played on Sunday, July 16th, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
