557-Acre Project Includes 160-Acre Reservoir, Trails, and Conservation Practices

Leigh, Nebraska (May 2011)

The Maple Creek Recreation Area near Leigh, Nebraska, has officially opened to the public. The 557-acre project includes a 160-acre reservoir, divided into two parts by a causeway. The watershed covers 6,800 acres, with 75% of the land surface having conservation practices installed.

Visitors to the Maple Creek Recreation Area can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and horseback riding on designated trails. The area also features picnic areas, a playground, and a boat ramp for access to the reservoir. Camping is available at the site, with 10 tent pads and 50 RV hookups.

"We are excited to open the Maple Creek Recreation Area to the public," said Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director Rex Amack. "This project has been a long time in the making, and we are proud to provide this new outdoor recreation opportunity for Nebraskans and visitors alike."
