Vanilla OS 2 Orchid: A Revolutionary Operating System
A Departure from Vanilla OS 1
Vanilla OS 2 Orchid, released this week, marks a significant departure from its predecessor, Vanilla OS 1. Released 18 months ago, Vanilla OS 1 was based on Ubuntu. However, in 2024, Vanilla OS has chosen to embrace a new direction, ditching Ubuntu in favor of a different foundation.
Reasons for the Change
The decision to move away from Ubuntu was driven by several factors. Vanilla OS believes that the Linux-based container images from the Open Container Initiative (OCI) offer better security and performance. Additionally, the Linux kernel 6.0 provides a modern and stable base for the operating system.
Simplicity and Performance
Vanilla OS 2 Orchid is designed to redefine simplicity and performance. The operating system provides a seamless and intuitive experience for users of all levels. It is completely rewritten using OCI images and powered by the Linux kernel 6.0.
Current Status
It is important to note that Vanilla OS 2 Orchid is currently in the alpha stage and is not intended for daily use. The final release is expected later in 2024.
