Athletics' JJ Bleday: Out against left-hander
Bleday was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against southpaw Marlins starter Trevor Rogers on Saturday
The Athletics optioned outfielder JJ Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday,
The move was made to get Bleday more regular at-bats against right-handed pitching, as he has struggled against lefties this season.
Bleday is hitting just .143 (4-for-28) with two doubles and five strikeouts against left-handed pitchers this season.
Bleday has not yet faced a left-handed starter in the majors this season
He has struggled against lefties in the minors, hitting just .239 (20-for-84) with five doubles, three home runs and 22 strikeouts in 68 career plate appearances against left-handed pitchers.
The Athletics face five left-handed starters in their next 10 games, so it is unclear when Bleday will be recalled.
Bleday is one of the Athletics' top prospects and is expected to be a key part of their future
The 24-year-old outfielder was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and has shown flashes of his potential in the majors this season.
He is hitting .293 (12-for-41) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in 15 games this season.
The Athletics are hoping that Bleday can continue to develop and become a consistent contributor in the majors.
